Measuring Liners

The quality of the liner's fit will be directly related to the completeness and care taken in measuring.

ALL DIMENSIONS SHOULD BE RECORDED, AT THE VERY LEAST, WITHIN 1 INCH.

Never take any measurements or dimensions for granted. Considerable time and dollars are lost because a homeowner incorrectly identifies his pool or a contractor assumes that a nominal 16' x 32' pool is exactly 16'0" x 32'0". Dimensions vary among manufacturers and some installers make changes during the original installation of the pool. You should measure, record and order your liner on the basis of exact finished dimensions of the pool or the exact finished dimensions you are planning to use. From that point on leave the rest up to The Vinyl Works. They will tailor-make the liner for a proper fit. The proper procedure for measuring a typical pool for a liner is as follows:

Standard Hopper

A.  Pool Width — Measurements should be taken at both ends and at the middle of the pool to detect any bowing in the side walls.

B.  Pool Length — Use same procedure as "Pool Width" above.

Diagonal MeasurementsDiagonals — Measure diagonals from corner to corner to check the square of the pool.  A difference of more than 2 inches should be noted.

C.  Sidewall — This is the depth from the top of the liner to the point at which the bottom meets the vertical pool wall.  Also referred to as "Finished Wall Height".  See Liner Considerations-Sidewall for more details.  Measure this at three points:  shallow end wall, deep end wall and at the break-over.  Variations should be noted.

D.  Length of Shallow End — Shallow end wall to break-over.

E.  Slope — Length from break-over to hopper pad.

F.  Hopper Pad Length — Length of the hopper pad.

G.  Back Wall — Slope from hopper pad to deep end wall.

H.  Hopper Pad Width — Width of the hopper pad.

J.  Side Slopes — Slopes on each side of hopper pad from hopper pad to side walls.

K.  Pool Depth — The distance from the bottom of the hopper pad to the bead of the liner.

NOTE:  All measurements except C and K are horizontal, that is, flat.  Therefore, dimensions D + E + F + G must = B and J + H + J must = A.  This serves as an excellent way of checking the accuracy of your measurements.

The same techniques are used for other Bottom Styles.

When measuring pool corners, measurements should be taken as indicated below.  Also, see pool shapes. Use our Diagonal Conversion Chart For Grecian Pools,

Please refer to Steps, Cuddle Coves & Benches and Spas and Waterfalls for full details of these additions. All measurements for these items should be taken within a least 1/4 of an inch for optimum fit.
